Dear Sandra,

Based on HDB policies, you are not allowed to hold any properties overseas and be eligible to buy HDB in Singapore.

That being said, I have clients who are a SG Citizen and SG PR couple, whom the PR have a property ownership overseas and managed to appeal successfully and have bought a HDB resale.

Disclaimer, this is case-to-case basis.

Please check and/or appeal with HDB first before you proceed to search for your HDB home in Singapore. HDB will look at your circumstances and make the decision, and they are not obligated to approve any appeals.

Dear Sandra,

As long as you are listed as the owner of the residential property, you will be required to dispose your ownership within 6 months from taking possession of your HDB purchased, as HDB regulates that you should not be an owner or even part owner of any private residential properties, both local and abroad during the Minimum Occupation Period.

Hi Sandra,

Yes you can, provided you meet the eligibility conditions of owning a HDB flat under one of the many HDB Eligibility Schemes, i.e Public Scheme, Single Scheme etc.

Do take note that you're required to sell off all private properties (both local and overseas) latest within 6 months upon your HDB flat purchase. You will also need to serve a 5-year MOP before you can purchase another residential property.
