I am listed as an essential occupier in the HFE letter which my parents (both of them are main applicants) are getting a BTO flat. The BTO most likely will be built and ready in 5 years from now and by then I will be hitting 35 years old. If in this period of time till I hit 35 years, there’s a change in my relationship status (e.g. to get a BTO / resale with my spouse) or when I hit 35 years old and I want to get a BTO / resale flat as a single, can I remove myself as an essential occupier without affecting my parents’ BTO application? Along with me, I have a younger sibling also listed as essential occupier, both of us are working.

Hi there,

As long as the family nucleus includes 1 Singapore Citizen, they are eligible to buy BTO.

You can remove the names of the existing occupiers from the flat if they are no longer staying in the flat and if it does not affect your eligibility to retain the flat under the eligibility scheme.

You may reach out to me via WhatsApp at 9189 0029  if you have any further enquires.

Not sure why you are listed as an essential occupier in this application. Is any of your parents not a Singapore Citizen or PR in this case? If both of them are SC or SPR, then you are unlikely an essential occupier in this application.

If you are indeed an essential occupier, then you will also need to observe 5 years MOP upon the collection of keys to the BTO unit, thus you may need to appeal to HDB to allow your name to be withdrawn from this BTO unit.

Hi, this will depend on the eligibility criteria as to why you are stated as an essential occupier, but since both your parents are main applicants, there shouldn't be any issue removing your name from the HDB, however best to check with HDB.

Hi,

1) One of the reasons I could think of is one of your parents is a foreigner.
2) They have to include you to be eligible for the BTO.
3) Since you have a younger sibling also listed as an essential occupier, you might stand a chance to remove your essential occupier status.
4) However, the final decision will still be up to the HDB's discretion and decision.
5) If by the expiry of the current HFE, the balloting is unsuccessful, you might consider not including your name in the new HFE application.
6) The reason is your parents might lose the BTO if you need to remove your name before the key collection.
7) There is a clause in the Agreement of Lease that the HDB won't release the key when there is a change in the applicants.
8) I would also suggest you get a black and white from the HDB by illustrating your situation via the efeedback channel.

Please give me a thumbs-up if the answer provided is relevant to your main concern. Thanks!!!

Hope the above answers your main concerns, but if there are more queries, please feel free to contact me at 90110636  , or email: ling.ck7@gmail.com if more information is needed.
I'll be glad to assist.

Hi
- Great question! Being listed as an essential occupier on your parents' BTO flat does come with some implications, but don't worry, there's flexibility.
- If your relationship status changes before the BTO is ready, you can apply to remove yourself as an essential occupier to apply for your own BTO or resale flat with your spouse. This typically won't affect your parents' application as long as they still meet the necessary criteria with the remaining occupiers.
- Similarly, when you turn 35 and want to get a BTO or resale flat as a single, you can apply to be removed as an essential occupier. HDB has procedures in place for such changes, so this is entirely possible without jeopardizing your parents' BTO application.
- It's important to plan ahead and communicate with HDB about your future housing plans. This ensures a smooth transition and helps avoid any surprises.
- If you need personalized advice on navigating this process or have any other property-related questions, feel free to reach out. I'm here to help!
