If your name is needed to form a "family nucleus" in order to own the BTO, you will have to abide by the MOP rule, and will not able to purchase another residential property during the MOP period.

To explain it in layman terms, if your name is not required to be listed as an occupier of the BTO flat (essential occupier in order for the family to purchase the BTO), then you need not observe the minimum occupation period.

An essential occupier is one that form a family nucleus with the owner without which the owner will not be allowed the purchase his own flat int he first place.
