I am facing an issue with my Landlord over my 11 year old Maltese.

I quote her statement

"The dangers of allowing pets in rental properties. If a pet is trained well or the pet lives outside, there is a great chance that pet will never harm a home. If a pet is not trained well or is an older pet, they can do a lot of damage to a house. The biggest risk with pets doing damage to a home is urination inside the house. If you had the pleasure of being in a home that has pet damage, it is not pretty and smells horrible. The smell can be overwhelming especially from cats.... and so on. If you are going to allow pets, you have to do your due diligence on the pet and weigh the risk of damage versus the reward of more money."

Is it possible to request an open minded professional feedback. She asking for additional 500 and 3 months deposit for a 01 yr lease. Lease terms is to seek permission for pets. Please advise.

Hi John,

It is true that cat urine, if not handled properly, can leave foul smell that stays on.

Is your cat 'toilet' trained?

Have you assured your Landlord that your pet is trained?
Or are you able to give that assurance ?

Whatever the case, I am sure you can find another rental unit that is more 'pet friendly'. Or should i say, less 'pet paranoid'.

    Hi Steven

    Thanks for the reply.

I am confident enough to give assurance and my pet is definitely toilet trained.

Even when landlord requested for 3 months deposit for a 01 year lease. I am OK to go ahead. But not to be asked for 500 per month more.

Now awaiting for confirmation. If owner wants a mutual termination. I have only stayed there since 9 Dec. But I rather move again. Than be subjected to this paranoid owner.

    Cheers
