I am divorced and under 35. Can I purchase a HDB resale with my mom, who is an essential occupier of an existing HDB flat with my dad? They do not have any outstanding housing loan but my dad is the sole owner of their current house while my mom is just listed as an occupier.

Hi,

1) You are not able to join name with your mother to buy a resale HDB flat.
2) Because your mother and father are still under marital status. They are considered as a single-family that cannot be separated to buy HDB separately. This has nothing to do with their ownership of the HDB flat.
3) If you have a child under your legal custody and care, you will be eligible under Public Scheme to purchase a resale HDB flat.
4) If you do not have a child, you can only buy under Single Citizen Scheme after you reached 35 years old.

I am afraid to inform you that you are not eligible to buy a resale HDB with your mom as your parents are legally married thus considered as a single entity, unable to own 2 HDBs at the same time.

If you prefer to get a property below 35 YO, have you think of the private segment instead?
