I am currently renting and have been living at the same place for the last 3 and a half years. The lease in under my name and my husband's. We now have separated - he has moved to Vietnam and we are in the process of a divorce. Am i able to use the Diplomatic Clause in the lease to move out?

Hi Ms Tan, how long more is your current lease?

I would recommend that you speak to your landlord regarding your circumstances. It is unfortunate, and I hope that by speaking to your landlord, he/she will understand and sympathize with your situation.

I would need to examine your tenancy agreement and particularly how the diplomatic clause is worded to advise if you can use it to terminate the lease prematurely.
