Asked by
I am currently intending to purchase a resale flat with my partner.
I'm listed as an occupier with my family in the upcoming SBF unit (we can only take keys after 2 years).

I'm stuck at the process where i want to submit the intent to purchase and it shows that buyer(s) have booked a new flat.

Do i also have to fulfill the minimum 5 year MOP period before i can book my flat with my partner? It would then mean that i will have to wait 2 years (SBF still building) + 5 Years (MOP period) before i can purchase my own place. It doesn't make sense.
Do i have to appeal to HDB to remove my name as an occupier and how successful will it be? Do i still have to wait out for 1 year or is there any "cooling" time before i can purchase my own place.

Thank you

Hi,

1) First of all, you have to check with the HDB whether you are the essential occupier or just an occupier.
2) Essential occupier meaning without you included, the application will not be valid.
3) You may check which scheme your family qualifies for:
https://www.hdb.gov.sg/cs/infoweb/residential/buying-a-flat/new/eligibility/hdb-flat

4) Only the essential occupier's name cannot be removed during this waiting period.
5) If you are just an ordinary occupier, you may put up the request to remove your name from the application via your HDB branch office.
6) If you are the essential occupier, then yes, you have to wait for another 7 years before you can purchase a resale flat with your life partner.
7) The name removal is immediate once confirmed you are just an ordinary occupier.
