I am currently 40 & single. Had my name included into the fully paid hdb flat after my mum pass away 10 years ago. Current co owning the flat with my dad. Am i still eligible to apply for BTO? or do i have to remove my name first then apply for BTO? am i eligible to purchase 5 room flat or my only choice is 2 room? if i really wish to have a 5 room flat, can i look at other alternatives such as resale flat?

Hi,

For BTO your choice is only 2-room is non mature estates, provided you fulfill all hdb eligibility requirements. You need not remove your name first, and can apply for a HFE letter first then apply for BTO or resale flat. If you are getting a 5-room flat, the only alternative is the resale flat. Do note if you have utilize CPF for this property, your dad needs to refund this cpf to you when doing the transfer of ownership.

In term of BTO you will only be eligible for 2 room flat while your options will open up if you go for the resale option. In fact if you have applied for the HFE, you will be able to know what your options are in the HDB market, both in the primary and resale market, including your loan eligibility as well as housing grants should you be opting for resale flats. As for the current property that you co-own with your dad, you will need to ensure that you dad has the necessary capacity to refund you whatever CPF funds you have utilised including the accrued interest when you are transferring your part of ownership to him, and that he is eligible to own the HDB on his own as well.

If you're applying for the flat alone, you can only get up to 2RM flats in non-mature estates. But if you're apply with your Father as one family nucleus, you may apply for a bigger flat under Public Scheme.

Alternatively, you may wish to withdraw your name from the current HDB flat, and purchase a resale HDB flat of any size under Single Scheme.
