Good morning,

2 months prior to your lease start date will be ideal as landlord usually prefer not to wait beyond 2 months for tenant to move in.

If you can do a short trip to view the units first will be good if not can be done virtually if you dont mind.

the ideal timeline to start looking for a rental unit will be around July to August which is 1-2 months before your arrival. Usually landlords want a minimal turnover rate for their unit and won't wait any longer than 2 months for their tenant to move in, however you can start having in mind where will you be studying at and which developments are suitable for you so that it will be smoother closer to the date.
