I am a Singaporean planning to marry a Malaysian who owns a property. I understand that I cannot apply for BTO due to her property, but I would like know if having children with Singapore citizenship in the future will allow me to apply for 3 room or higher BTO flats?

Hi
As long as you want to apply for BTO or resale HDB flat, your spouse cannot have a private property. Therefore, either your spouse sells the private property or you consider buying a private apartment in SG.

Sorry to inform you that as long as your fiancee has an overseas private property, you guys wont be eligible to purchase a BTO.

All applicants and occupiers listed in the flat application:

Must not own or have an interest in any local or overseas private property; and
Must not have disposed of any private property in the last 30 months before the flat application to buy a flat from HDB or resale PLH flat on the open market.Hope my sharing helps in aiding in your enquiry. May I know how can I value add further in your property needs?

Even for resale HDB, she has to dispose first and observe 15 months waiting period before you guys can buy.

If not, I am afraid you guys have to dip into private housing market.

We are only able to base on current regulations to advise, and as of now, as long as your spouse owns a private residential property regardless whether abroad or locally, you will be ineligible to purchase a HDB whether resale or BTO. She will be required to dispose off her interest in that property, wait out for a period of 30 months before you are eligible to apply for BTO or wait for 15 months before you are eligible to purchase a resale HDB assuming that both of you are not 55 years old or above.
