I am a owner of a 4 room hdb and have property in Malaysia, wonder if 1) can i sell my HDB and buy new EC? 2) do i need to sell my current hdb first before buying another one? 3) i just convert to SIngaporean. can i get the grant if i buy from resale? do i need to wait 30 months after selling my oversea property?

Hi Peggy,

Because you own an overseas property, you are not able to apply for new EC. Unless you opt to sell off that first and after 30 months from sale completion, then you are eligible to apply for new EC.

And if you are keen in upgrading into a bigger resale HDB, you can either sell first or buy later or buy first and sell current later if not, you can buy and sell at the same time (contra) provided you are using HDB loan for your current flat. And you have to take note that you have to dispose off your interest in overseas property within 6 months from purchase completion.

As long as you never enjoy the housing grant as a Singaporean, you should be eligible for it.
