Hi, nope this is not normal at all. Landlord has the right to impose interest charge to late rental payment.

Dear landlord,

I have been handling numerous rental for the past few years, and I can definitely say that there have to be few group of tenants who are consistently late in their rental payment. I cannot say if this is normal or not but it happens.

Perhaps your agent could have responded more appropriately instead of commenting that it is normal.

In usual tenancy agreement that I have seen, interest is usually chargeable if delay in payment is more than 7 days and landlord reserves the right to repossess the property (eviction of tenant) after 14 days of non payment. I am not sure what are the terms and conditions stated in your tenancy agreement.
