It depends which scheme you are eligible to buy an HDB flat.

You must fulfil the 5-year Minimum Occupation Period (MOP) before you can invest in a private property,

If you are applying with a family member or spouse under the Public Scheme, one of your family member who is an essential occupier can buy the condominium solely under his/her own name without incurring the Additional Buyer's Stamp Duty (ABSD).

The family member may also get up to 75% financing from financial institutions.

Do note, a Buyer's Stamp Duty (BSD) is applicable.

Good morning,

Assuming you wish to start off with a HDB with your spouse, you can do this.

One of you can be the owner while the other as essentially occupier. With this, once MOP is fulfilled, essential occupier can purchase a private without ABSD.

- ABSD savings. let say $1m, you are able to save $120k as SC.

But do take note by doing this, only owner's income will be used as loan assessment while only owner's CPF can be used in financing the loan.
