Hi there. I am staying with my parents, and all 3 of us are now in a rental property now with the lease expiring in 3 to 4 months. If I were to move out today and rent a property alone myself for 6 months, do I still have to report a change of address to ICA?

Yes, you do need to report a change of address to ICA, even if it’s a temporary rental.

In Singapore, the National Registration Act requires all Singapore Citizens and PRs to update ICA within 28 days of any change in residential address — even if you’re moving from one rental to another, or staying for just a few months.

If you move out and live alone at a new address (even for 6 months), that becomes your place of residence, and you’re required to update ICA through the Change of Address e-Service.

You’ll need:

Your Singpass

Proof of residence at the new place (e.g. tenancy agreement or a letter from the landlord)

Once approved, you’ll get a sticker with your updated address to paste on your NRIC.

Generally, as my colleagues pointed out, you do need to update your address with ICA within 28 days, and it is easy to do so online.

An exception could be if your short term move is truly a temporary accommodation situation, and you are returning to your permanent address thereafter.

Are you hesitant to change your address because it has some implications? (e.g. government vouchers?)
