Hi Property Specialists,

I just received my Singapore citizenship in February 2025. I’m a Singaporean, and my wife is a SPR. We intend to purchase a BTO. However, I own a property in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, and the mortgage loan is under my name. The property has not undergone MOT (Memorandum of Transfer) and is still under the developer’s name.

Will I still be subject to the 30-month waiting period to purchase a BTO?

You should check with HDB on such eligibility criteria. Very likely you will not be eligible for BTO or even resale units given that you own this property in JB despite that property still have not undergone MOT.
