HI,

My wife and i just move into our BTO flat this year. We have some spare cash and we are interested to get a condo for rental purpose.
1) Do we need to fulfill any MOP period before buying as we are not going to sell.
2) We are new to the property market, what is current rule for HDB owner getting a second property.
Any guru can advice?

Hi Alan,

Unfortunately you have to fulfil your minimum occupation period (MOP) of 5 years for HDB before you can purchase a 2nd residential property. You can, however, purchase commercial property within MOP, but the loan terms maybe a bit restrictive. Thanks and hope to discuss further.

I am afraid to inform you that you are only eligible to purchase private residential property after fulfillment of minimum occupation period of 5 years.

But you are still eligible to invest in commercial or industrial property within MOP if you are keen.

Hi Alan,

You may not be eligible to purchase a condo yet as under the HDB ruling, you will not be able to purchase a 2nd residential property within the Minimum Occupation Period (MOP).

You may wish to consider investing in a commercial or industrial property instead as some of these projects command a decent rental yield and are not subjected to the Additional Buyer Stamp Duty (ABSD).
