Hi,

My wife and I are Malaysian and we are both SPR, currently we own a HDB and had fulfilled the MOP, we got our HDB in year 2017. Our question is that, are we allowed get a property in Malaysia? to be more specific, it is actually me who is going to inherit a property that belong to my late brother who passed on last year. It is unfortunate that non of my family member could take on the additional liability as it is still servicing loan and my mom would like to keep my late brother house as it is full of our family memories.

Hi, it is not allowed for SPR to own a second property in Singapore while holding a HDB, you may want to write in to HDB to appeal regarding this, as they do case by case review of such appeals.

If you have already met your MOP, yes. It is perfectly fine to own another property outside Singapore. The restriction is only when you are looking to acquire another residential property in Singapore as a SPR, then you will need to give up your existing HDB.

    Just to share to those who have the same question, I had wrote in to HDB and I just got the response from HDB. For my case since I had fulfilled the MOP, it is perfectly fine to own (inherit or buy) a property outside of Singapore.

1) An all-SPR household that owns an HDB flat is not allowed to own any private residential property locally and overseas.
2) You may want to appeal to the HDB to see whether they can give you an exception treatment.
