Hi, my sister is married and I'm single but my parents are asking if it is possible to purchase a flat or condo under our combined names (sister and me) as my brother in law is a foreigner and they are still renting a flat. However, as they would still be living in Singapore for quite a while and therefore we are thinking of purchasing a place for them to stay. Would it be feasible for us to purchase or would it be better for them to purchase as a couple? Both my sister and I are Singapore citizens.

Hi,

Your sister can purchase a flat/condo with your brother-in-law no issue. For a flat, its under the non-citizen spouse scheme. For a condo, there's no eligibility conditions, as long as the finances are comfortable. Its better to purchase under their own names, as I presume they will feel more comfortable.

May I have more info and requirements about your plans so to make better recommendations? Thanks and look forward to value-add to your housing plans.

Warm Regards,

Good morning,

Your sister can purchase with her spouse under non-citizen spouse scheme where your sister is the owner and her spouse is the essential occupier. In this manner, you will be free to do your own planning and not get locked into the unit for another 5 years.

Do feel free to contact me for further discussion.

Hi,

I don't see why your sister and brother-in-law not choosing to purchase under their joint-names, and wanting to rope you in the purchase? Is it because your brother-in-law is not drawing an income or has low income for the loan?

I personally do not think it is advisable for you to purchase together with your sister, especially if the property is for their occupation. If it's for investment, then you can consider it.

Should you need any further assistance in matters relating to property, please contact me at my mobile 9748 6305  . I will be happy to assess and share with you the possibilities for you and your partner in the current market.

Thank you.
