Hi, I'm interested in buying an HDB flat once I turn 35. However, I'm currently studying/working overseas, and since I do need a place to stay, I bought an apartment in lieu of renting. Is it possible to buy the HDB in my scenario, and rent it out until I come back to the country?

Good morning,

Do take note that you must fulfil minimum occupation period first before you can rent out the whole unit. You can seek for permission to rent out the whole unit within MOP from your HDB branch office but it's based on case by case basis.

You can rent out room within MOP but you must physically stay in the unit as well.

If not, you can consider purchasing a private property so you wont have to adhere to so many restrictions.
