Hi if im intending to buy a house (be it resale or bto or balance over), but is currently renting 2 room flat from HDB under my mum amd my name, what happens to the rented HDB after i buy my house?

Will my mum still get to stay in the rented 2 room or must she move house? I saw on the hdb website that we must give up the rented flat within 4 months is it? If that is the case, what is an option i can go for after buying house? Can i buy another studio appt for my mum near my new house?

Dear sir/mdm,

It depends.

Are you purchasing the place with your mum as a co-owner or essential occupier? Or are you purchasing with your partner? If your mum is an essential occupier or co-owner, then the public rental flat has to be given up and both of you must shift to the HDB purchased.

If your mum has the financial capacity to purchase another unit without loan or is eligible to take up a home loan by herself, it is also an option you can consider as you will not be able to undertake any home loan for your mum's purchase since you are not an owner for that property.

    As long as your mum fulfills the eligibility criteria to rent in the HDB rental flat, you can approach HDB to do the necessary arrangement. First of all, it is important to determine your mum's eligibility on her own after you have purchase a flat.
