Hi, if i buy a condo now, and intend to buy a HDB in future, will i be eligible for the grants that are given to first time applicants? (assume that i sell off the condo within 6 months of buying hdb)

Hi,

As of current regulations, yes you be considered 1st timer still as you have not enjoyed any subsidy. Do note to qualify for grants (ie. get subsidized housing), you need to wait out 30 months after selling your private condo before you can apply. Most clients with similar scenario will just forgo the grant as they do not wish to observe this 30 month period, and get a resale flat from open market. Also, prevailing income ceiling eligibility conditions apply. For now its 12k/month.

Regulations may change from time to time, so one might be over-analyzing the situation. If you wish to have the "best of both worlds", you might want to consider new EC from developers instead, as there will be grant and also condo lifestyle to look forward to.

Dear Sir/Mdm,

I am afraid you will need to wait out a 30 months period before you are eligible to apply for grants if you still satisfy the income cap.

I would strongly recommend that you go for Executive Condo if you intend to own a private property, enjoy a grant at the same time and also enjoy a subsidized price for the purchase. Past statistics have shown that majority of EC owners are able to enjoy a tidy sum of profit when they sell their properties.
