Hi I would like to buy a resale HDB flat for investment purposes but still live with my parents. Does the 5 year MOP means I have to stay inside the purchased flat or is it legal to leave it empty for 5 years? Thanks!

Good morning buyer,

Do take note that you have to fulfill your MOP first before you are eligible to rent out your whole unit. If you are thinking of subletting out your bedrooms, you have to physically occupy one of the bedrooms as well.

But leaving the unit vacant, it will not contribute the fulfillment of MOP.

My suggestion is that you might want to consider purchasing a resale HDB and move in with your parents then rent out your parents' flat. Everything is legalised this way.

Hope my explanation and opinion aid in your decision making.

If you need further assistance or advice in your property purchase, feel free to contact me. Cheers!

Warmest Regards,

Afternoon,

MOP refers to Minimum Occupation Period. Leaving it empty or renting it out does not mean that the owner have occupied the the unit.

Hope this clears your doubt.

Hi,

I think the best way is to ask your parent to move into your new house and renting out your parent's house. Do contact me at 9273 6096  for further discussion. Cheers

Hi,

You need to physically occupy the hdb for 5 years before you can sell or rent out the whole unit. Another way will be to rent out your current place and move in together with your family to the new place. Thanks and hope to assist with your plans further.
