Hi, I was a Malaysian & I own a property in Malaysia. But recently I converted to Singaporean & intended to buy a HDB. Do I need to dispose my Msia property? If yes, how long is the period I need to wait before I can apply for HDB?

Hi Jarod,

Congrats on attaining Singapore Citizenship!

You are eligible to purchase a resale HDB flat at any point of time, provided you meet the eligibility conditions under the various Schemes.

However, do take note that you will have to sell off all Malaysian properties within 6 months upon your HDB flat purchase.

Should you be keen to apply for BTO direct from HDB, you will have to sell off all your properties first, and wait out 30 months before you are eligible.

Should you need any further assistance in matters relating to property, please contact me at my mobile 9748 6305  . I will be happy to assess and share with you the possibilities for you and your partner in the current market.

Thank you.

Best regards,

Hi Jarod,

There are quite a few schemes available to apply for HDB.
By using the word "Apply", I'm presume you intend to buy BTO (Build-To-Order) or SBF (Sales-of-Balance-Flat).

You have to understand which scheme is most suitable, dependent you are buying alone or with a partner.

(1) A need to dispose Msia property
(a) To be eligible for BTO/SBF, you need to wait out for 30 months after dispose of private property (local and/or foreign) before eligible to apply for BTO/SBF.
(b) To be eligible for resale HDB, you only need to dispose of private property (local and/or foreign) within 6 months upon key collection.
(c) To be eligible for private, you can keep your foreign property without ABSD incurred since you are Singaporean.

Hope the above answer to your main concerns, but if there are more queries, please feel free to contact me at 90110636  , or email: ling.ck7@gmail.com if more information is needed.
I'll be glad to assist.

Best regards
