It depends on your objectives actually. I have worked with similar profile clients, who went ahead to purchase a private condo instead for investment while staying with parents. Planning to capitalize on the gains and hold for some time and when he reaches 35, to fully pay the HDB straightaway and be mortgage free so he can focus on the other life goals.

My advise is if you have the means, you can go ahead to purchase a condo for investment purpose. You can always purchase a HDB later on in your life. In fact you will still be eligible for HDB grant or even purchase a BTO provided you sell off your condominium unit 30 months prior to purchasing.
