It depends on your objectives actually. I have worked with similar profile clients, who went ahead to purchase a private condo instead for investment while staying with parents. Planning to capitalize on the gains and hold for some time and when he reaches 35, to fully pay the HDB straightaway and be mortgage free so he can focus on the other life goals.
With 220k funds on hand, it is possible to get a condo of approximately 800k if the earning power is strong and loan attainable not an issue.
