Hi, I’m an essential occupier in my single parent’s house that they bought in 2021. I want to apply for a new flat (bto/sbf/resale) as a couple but I know I am subject to 5 years MOP. Is there any levy I have to pay if I want to apply for a new flat? Or if I apply for bto now that key collection is after MOP, is that acceptable? Or can I only start applications after MOP? Thank you

Hi Janice,

1) You are just an essential occupier of the current flat thus only need to observe the 5yrs MOP before being eligible to apply to buy a BTO/SBF/resale flat.
2) Since you are not the owner it means you didn't enjoy any subsidies from the current flat, therefore you won't be subject to any resale levy.
3) You can only submit your BTO application 5 yrs from 2021.

Hi Janice,

You are only able to apply for BTO after the MOP is met for current flat. I'm unsure why you are the essential occupier for the current place. Is your parent SPR or Singapore citizen? Given that you are the essential occupier, it means that your parent will need to dispose off the current HDB when you take over the BTO flat when ready given that the family nucleus does not meet the criteria by then.
