As you mentioned your BTO is ready only next year, I would assume you have either book a flat or sign the sales and lease agreement. If you are already in this stage, it is not advisable to cancel your BTO at this moment as it will result in you not being able to utilise the CPF housing grant for first timer even if you bought a resale for a period of 1 year from the date of cancellation. This penalty will be lifted once the 1 year suspension period is up. In addition, if you cancel your BTO after the sales and lease agreement is signed, 5% deposit out of the 10% you paid earlier will be forfeited. If you have not booked a flat yet, then there is no problem in cancelling your BTO as you are still able to enjoy CPF grant for first timer when buying a resale. (No 1 year suspension). Btw I will urge you to email or speak to HDB on cancellation of HDB (check on the penalty that you will require to bear) and check on your eligibility to obtain grants (which I believe you will be barred from enjoying). One of my clients cancelled her BTO application and she was barred from enjoying housing grant for a year.
