Hi,

I just bought a resale HDB flat this year under Single Scheme and my partner has owned her a condo for 2 years.

If we get married:

1. Do I have to update my status with HDB if I wish to remain as sole owner? Or able to remain status quo as single owner. Is it mandatory to update my marriage status to HDB? Especially since it does not affect my ownership?

2. Does my partner have to sell her condo? Or do I have to sell my HDB?

3. Does my partner need to pay additional fees to keep her condo?

Open to any advice that will allow us to keep both properties after marriage without being penalised. Or any references to the fine print on the HDB singles scheme.

Hi, appreciate your sharing. Are both you above age of 35 before you purchase ?

1. Once you ROM, have to update HDB
2. It depends whether you have purchase it before ROM and provided both at age 35 or above
3. Don't require, your partner able to rent out the condo or own stay without extra fees.

You will need to update your status to HDB and they may require you to either sell your HDB or the condo after marriage if you are still within your MOP period. You will need to check with HDB on this.

Hi,

1) There is no requirement to change your ownership if you do not wish to. However, it is mandatory to update your marriage status to the HDB.
2) During MOP no owner or essential occupier is supposed to own any private residential property. This implied that your future spouse will have to dispose of her condo if you get married within your flat MOP.
3) This is not applicable.

I would strongly suggest you appeal to the HDB stating your situation and seek advice from the HDB on whether your spouse can hold on to her condo and stay in the HDB flat.
