Hi, I intend to purchase a resale unit near my mother in CCK as she has depression and needs looking after. However, her name is not listed as the owner or occupier in the current flat that she lives in (it's my eldest brother's house). My youngest brother, who is single, used my parent's names to apply for a BTO in Yishun a few years ago and he just moved in, but my mom has no intention to stay with him as she'll be all alone (my dad is a permanent resident in a nursing home). Can I still apply for the Proximity Housing Grant considering the situation? Can I appeal to HDB?

Hi Ms. Tee,

I assume you are buying under Single Singapore Citizen Scheme. Unfortunately Proximity Housing Grant is not available, unless you include her name in your resale purchase in the first place. You will still qualify for 1st timer cpf housing grant if your income is 6k & below. May I have more info and requirements about your plans so to make better recommendations? Good morning Ms. Tee,

Your mother's name had been used to purchase a BTO unit in Yishun but your youngest brother is staying in it while your mother is staying in CCK with your eldest brother.
Firstly, you will require documentation prove of your mother's condition. Then you will need to show that your eldest brother does not have the capability to take care of your mother well. You will also have the issue that your mother need to sell away the unit that she had bought in Yishun as she had not been staying there hence MOP is not fulfilled.
What you can do is to purchase resale HDB unit under single scheme and obtain the single grant. Proximity Housing grant might not work in your favor.

If you're planning to get the flat under Single Scheme, I regret to inform you that you are not eligible for Proximity Housing Grant. This is because your parents name has already been used to purchase the BTO flat with your brother.

You can however apply for the first-timer grant, if you fulfill the eligibility conditions, and your income is below $6000 per month.
