Good evening Louis,

you are not eligible to purchase a resale HDB as you own an overseas property. To be eligible, you need to dispose off it and observe 15 months waiting period first before you can purchase.

Unless you are 55 years old and above, you will be eligible to purchase up to 4RM.

If not, you can try to appeal to HDB in regards to the inherited property.

Hope my sharing helps in aiding in your enquiry. May I know how can I value add further in your property needs?

Best regards,

YT Tan

Hi Louis,

I would be most glad to assist you further and please feel free to let me know if you need any assistance. Have a good day ahead. By the way, for your case and in order to be eligible to purchase a resale HDB flat once you converted to a citizen, you would need to dispose off your overseas property and to observe a wait out period of 15 months.

Hi Louis,

Congrats on attaining Citizenship!

Based on the current rules, you can only purchase a resale HDB flat 15 months after you had disposed off your interest in the overseas property.

Should you have a genuine need, you may wish to write in to HDB to appeal on this matter. Alternatively, you may wish to consider purchasing a private property instead.

I am experienced and well-versed in both HDB and private transactions. I will be able to assist you in your property plans. Please get in touch with me for a more in-depth discussion.

Should you need require further assistance in matters relating to property, please contact me at my mobile 9748 6305  . I will be happy to assess and share with you the possibilities for you in the current market.

Thank you.

Best regards,

Hi Louis,

Fortunate or unfortunate situation depending on how you look at it, the answer is tht you are ineligible to purchase a HDB, regardless resale or brand new since you have an interest in the property in Malaysia. In order to be eligible to purchase a resale HDB, you will need to dispose of your interest in the Malaysia property and wait out for a period of 15 months before you are eligible to purchase, or if you are 55 years old and above, you are then eligible to purchase a 4 room resale HDB or smaller unit upon disposal of your interest in the Malaysia property. If you are intending to purchase a BTO or SBF unit, the wait out period is 30 months after disposing off your interest.

I'd encourage you to appeal to HDB in this instance and see if they will allow you to proceed with the purchase.

Hi Louis,

Under the current rules and regulations, you will not be eligible to purchase a resale HDB. To be eligible, you will need to sell off your share of the property in Malaysia and wait out a 15 months period. If you are looking to apply for a housing grant, the wait out period is 30 months.

You can consider taking advantage of the opportunity to purchase a private property instead since ABSD is not applicable since you are now a Singapore. Feel free to contact me so that I can understand your objectives and provide you with further assistance.
