Hi , I am planning to get marry and intend to buy a resale flat under my name first. Can I purchase the resale flat first under my name and get marry later. My future wife has a private property.Does she need to sell away her property once we get marry if she shifted to my hdb resale friend.Kindly advice.Thanks.

Hello John,

If you're above 35 and Singaporean, you can buy a resale flat as a single under Single's Scheme.

However, if your future wife has a private property, she would need to sell her property according to HDB conditions

You, your spouse, co-applicants, and any occupiers listed in the resale application must dispose of any interest in any existing HDB flat or private residential property within 6 months of the legal completion of the resale flat purchase.

Good afternoon John,

If you are single singaporean citizen 35 years and above, you can purchase the resale HDB under your own name first. If you get married after that, HDB may require you to add the wife's name into the resale HDB and its still within MOP period, she may be required to sell off her private property.

Hi

Yes you may do so. However I have heard cases of HDB requesting the private property to be sold. This is because it is against the HDB policy of allowing a married couple to own a HDB unit that has not met its MOP and a private property at the same time although both properties are under separate names. It would not be an issue if you purchase HDB first, wait till 5 years MOP is up before marrying your fiance with a private property. The private property would not be required to be sold off then. Yes, it is possible to purchase the resale flat under your single name if you are 35 years old and above. Nevertheless, if you get married within the MOP period, HDB may require your partner to dispose her private property.
