Hi, I am currently living with my parent and if I buy my own HDB flat, is it a must to change the address on my IC to my purchased flat ? Can I don't change and remain the address as of my parent's flat. Kindly advise. Thanks.

Hi,

1) It is advisable to register yourself at the new address. You might face a penalty of a fine of up to $5,000 or imprisonment of up to 5 years, or to both. Please see this news:

2) You may register your new address online via:
https://www.ica.gov.sg/news-and-publications/media-releases/media-release/online-change-of-residential-address-from-1-october-2020
You shall see which authorities are linked to this registration, including IRAS which is closely related to your interest.
3) You have to be aware that IRAS might charge you 10% of flat value instead of 0.4%, due to the new purchase is not meant for your own stay.
4) Town council & HDB definitely will send any relevant receipts and notice to your new address. Thus it will become inconvenient if you are not staying there.
5) HDB is also inside the list if you did not change your residential address. You will not be able to fulfill MOP since you did not register yourself at this new address.
