Hi, I am a Singapore citizen and my wife was a PR. We relocated to other country 10 years ago. My wife lost her PRship since her reentry permit has expired.

We own a HDB flat in Singapore. Can you please advise if we can keep the HDB property or do we have to sell it?

Hi Alex, yes you could still own it as you are a Singaporean. For selling wise, the MOP means you have to physically stay at your hdb unit for at least 5 years before you are eligible to sell it. Pls feel free to let me know if you need any assistance.

Hi,

You can keep it but since you were not physically present to occupy it, your MOP of 5 years is probably not met thus you cannot sell it. You could consider to apply for subletting of whole unit approval since you are based overseas often.

Morning Alex,

Depending on when you have purchased the unit, your MOP requirement differ. Since you are SC, you are the eligible to keep the HDB unit even though your spouse is no longer SPR. As for selling, I would need to know more details before advising accordingly.

You can keep your hdb since you are a singaporean , regardless of your wife nationality and even lost her PR status .

Please note if you choose to sell your hdb , you might have difficulty in buying back another hdb in future with rules such as anybody who owns private property locally or overseas cannot buy a hdb , OR to dispose their private property locally or overseas within 6months from buying a hdb .
