Hi, I am a foreigner whom married to a Singapore Citizen. I learned that under Employment Pass, it is not possible for me to own a resale HDB flat. However, I am wondering if it is still possible for me to contribute to the house payment even though I am listed only as an occupier? Anyone familiar with this matter, please give me some knowledge. Thank you!

Hi,

In this case, your spouse will be the only one taking a loan on the HDB flat. It is still possible for you to contribute to the house mortgage in the form of CASH.

However, do take note that you are still not the owner of the HDB flat. Your spouse will be the sole owner, with you the essential occupier. In the event of the future sale of the HDB flat, the sales proceeds will all be in the name of your spouse.

Hi,

In this scenario the purchase will be under the non-citizen spouse scheme, which means the loan and ownership will only be under your spouse's name and not yours. You still can contribute to the flat financing using cash, but do note you are only considered as an essential occupier instead of the owner. Under HDB regulations, only eligible SC/SPR can be owners of HDB flat.
