Hi Guru,

I have some questions. Below is my situation.

Currently I co-own a HDB flat with my father and still within the MOP of 5 years. Am planning to get married, with intention to purchase a Condo under my future wife's name.

My question is, can I still apply for a new resale flat (using both me and my father's name) after the MOP period after the purchase of Condo under my wife's name.

Good afternoon,

As of current policy, yes you can purchase the resale flat with your dad after the MOP of 5 years are met, just that the current hdb flat will need to be sold. Perhaps I could have more info and requirements about your plans so to make better recommendations? Thanks and look forward to value-add to your housing plans.

The moment you are married, HDB will regard your wife and you as a single entity, therefore if you do purchase a resale HDB after your current flat MOPs, your wife's name will have to be listed minimum as an essential occupier of the new resale HDB, therfore she will be required to dispose off the private condominium under her name.

Hi Sir,

You are eligible purchase a HDB flat with your Father after you have met the MOP of your current flat.

If you get married, the next HDB flat you purchase, your Wife will need to be either the co-owner, or the essential occupier. This will mean that she will have to sell off all her existing residential properties (local and overseas) within 6 months of the HDB flat purchase.

You also mentioned "New resale flat". Do you mean new BTO flats? Or old resale HDB flats? If you're referring to a new BTO flat, you may be liable to pay a resale levy upon the sale of your current flat, if it is a "subsidized flat".

Good evening Sir,

you have to add your future wife into your resale flat minimally as an occupier if you guys married while you own a HDB (be it as a single or with your dad).

If she owns a private, she has to dispose off her interest in it.

Hope my sharing aids in clearing your doubts.

If you want further assurance, you may opt to email into HDB for clarification on this. At least your future wife will not have to incur SSD (within 3 years of purchase) if she has to be included into the resale flat.
