Hi Guru, both me and my wife are Malaysian PR. I am going to relocate to oversea permanently in 3 months time. Before the relocation we planned to buy a resale HDB so that we have a place to stay if we decided to come back to Singapore in the future. My wife also planning to convert to Singaporean. The question is if HDB found out I relocated to oversea permanently will they reject my wife's application to convert and force us to sell the newly bought HDB? FYI, both of us have stable job in Singapore and we are degree holder. Thanks

Afternoon Alex,

In order to purchase HDB unit, you need both applicants to be PR or one SC and one PR. But if you opt to relocate oversea, you need to continue to be employed in SG. This would then give you more chances to renew your Re-entry permit when time comes. Else, your spouse will not be able to hold the property under her own name.

Do feel free to contact me for further discussion.

Hi Alex

Thanks your question.

Based on your profile you have formed the eligibility to buy a hdb flat. However should you be relocated later the flat bought has to be left empty, cannot rent out, and mop period starts counting when you and your spouse are formally back to Singapore and stay.

So far hdb has no right to force you to sell unless your PR status is revoke.

Should i can be further assistance pls feel free to let me know.
