Hi Everyone, I'm a SPR since 10 years and own a Condo since 3 years on my name, recently a month back my wife (housewife) got PR approved and we are intending to buy a HDB on her name with a lumpsum cash. Now my question is,

Can we buy HDB right away or need to wait for 3 years, as I've already been SPR since 10 years now ? (I dont have any plans of selling condo now)

If not any other options available.

Hi,

The basic requirement for 2 SPR to buy HDB flat is both residence status must be at least 3 yrs.

Thus you are not eligible to buy any HDB as of now. You will have to wait 3 yrs to be eligible. Unless there is a revoke of this policy. This policy actually only implemented in 2012, so no one can tell it will there forever or will there be any adjustment.

By the way, as of current rules and regulations, you will have to dispose off your condo within 6 months once you got your HDB flat.

Hi,

Unfortunately the plan will not work as to be eligible for resale HDB, it needs to be a married SPR couple where both SPRs have obtained SPR status for 3 years each. All applicants are also required to sell away their private and overseas property after getting the hdb.

If you wish to own 2 properties, the only way is to purchase condo under her own name. May I have more info and requirements about your plans so to make better recommendations? Thanks and look forward to value-add to your housing plans.

Hi Sir,

I wish to inform you that you are not eligible to purchase a HDB flat at the moment. You can only purchase a HDB resale flat from the open market, at the earliest 3 years after your wife obtained her SPR.

Also, do take note that both your names need to be in the flat that you purchase (either as co-owner or essential occupier), and you will have to sell off your current private properties should you decide to go for a HDB flat.
