You will need to work out the finances involved before you decide if you should sell before purchase or vice versa. HI Ahmad,

It will depend on the type of flat you are looking at. If you want to get a BTO, you will need to sell your condo and wait for 30 months later to apply for BTO.
If you are looking for resale, then you must dispose of all private properties before or within 6 months of the resale flat purchase and you won't be eligible for housing grant.

Another important point is the financial aspect of the purchase of the HDB. Do you need to sell the condo the finance the sale of the HDB?

It will depend on whether you need the sale proceeds from your condo sale to purchase the HDB flat.

If you have the ready funds for the HDB purchase, you may choose to buy the HDB flat first, and then sell off your condo within 6 months upon the HDB flat purchase.

However, if you do not have the ready funds for the purchase, you could either sell off your condo first so that the funds are in and ready for your purchase, or you could explore take up a bridging loan. You could also work out a private arrangement with the Buyer of your condo, to rent back the condo upon sales completion. Timeline planning is crucial should you wish to avoid the hassle of having to shift house more than once.
