Hello everyone! My parents are in their 50s and 60s and are looking to select a BTO flat under the MGPS. They have taken up two HDB loans previously (second loan was 10k only) – so was wondering if they can get a third HDB loan. Any experience with this?

Also, should we try to get the HLE from HDB or in-principle approval from the bank? We are aware that part of sale proceeds have to go into the CPF retirement sum, therefore they probably have to loan another 100k-150k more.

Kindly note they are downsizing from 4 room resale to 3 room BTO. Anything else we have to consider to make this selection and purchase process smoother?

Hi Sir/Mdm,

It is unlikely HDB will grant them a 3rd HDB loan and therefore it is better to try to get a loan from the bank. They can also write in to CPF to request to use more of their retirement sum to finance the purchase of the unit.

In terms of timeline, they should also plan the sale and the collection of keys together so that they can transit smoothly and seamlessly from one unit to another. Hi,

It is possible for them to try and appeal for the 3rd loan and it will be a case to case basis. I do have buyer who managed to obtain the HDB loan for the 3rd time but the interest rate is on a high at 3.4%.
