Hello Agents. We are more than 3 years SPRs (Malaysians) and plan to buy HDB resale very soon. I do have a property in Malaysia under my name and I understand that it has to be disposed within 6 months after purchase completion. However I also read on some answers in this forum that it should be better to dispose it before purchase of the resale. Is it true? If we plan to dispose it only after the purchase, will that be a problem? will HDB reject our application or do they need some sort of proof that the dispose of overseas property can/will be done within 6 months after? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Officially you can dispose it within 6 months after key collection to hdb, its not an issue. However, they will definitely follow up on the progress of the overseas property sale thereafter, and if its not complied they do have the option of repossessing the hdb property. Evening,

As we are aware that the property market is not in a good shape. Some units will take longer than normal to get the right buyer. With that in mind, once you got your HDB, you will be limited to 6 months to sell your unit. It is also true that you can appeal to extend the period to more than 6 months but it's subjected to approval. Risk factors are definitely involved should you decide to buy first and sell later.

1. It is fine to dispose your overseas property 6 months after the completion of your purchase. A typical transaction will take about 3 months to complete, so from now till then, you will have about 9 months to a year to dispose off the Malaysian property.

Good morning buyer,

It's perfectly alright to dispose your overseas property within 6 months from resale HDB completion date.

A few of my SPR buyers also done so by transferring ownership of their overseas property to their family members and they told me this can be easily done way less than 6 months. Unless you intend to sell it off then you have to gauge how long do you need to take to do so.
