1) There is no great concern on whether to remove or keep the status quo. Of course, for the sake of national statistic accuracy, it is highly recommended to remove after they purchase their own flat.
2) It is very easy to do so using MYHDB, log in using Singpass, and put up your request to HDB accordingly.
