Dear Gurus, I bought a HDB flat years ago as a sole owner forming a family nucleus with my parents and younger brother. Now if I am getting married and moving out to live with my husband, what happens to my flat? Could my mother (my father passed away since) and my brother continue to live there as occupants while I still retain ownership even though I do not stay there? Thanks for your advice!

Morning Feng,

If you are moving out to stay with your spouse, in units that's purchased by him prior marriage, there should not be any issues. But if you intend to purchase HDB unit with your spouse, I'm afraid you have to transfer the ownership of your current unit to your mother and brother. They will then be required to return whatever CPF you have contributed plus interest.

Hi Feng,

You can retain the ownership of this current HDB as long as you are not going to purchase another HDB flat with your husband. If you are, then your family (mom and brother) has to take over the ownership unless you are purchasing a private property with your spouse (provided you fulfilled the applicable MOP).
