Dear Guru,

i have a question about the EC grant. I currently had a bto flat awaiting completion. I signed the S&P before 2012 and had paid the 5% downpayment without applying for the AHG. However, my wife and I are thinking about forfeiting this downpayment and buy an EC instead. If we do so, are we still considered 1st time applicant and are we eligible for the 30 000 EC grant? Hope to hear your reply soon.

Cheers...

Hi,

Definitely for cancellation of BTO unit booked before 2012, so as to book for new EC, there will be 5% downpayment financial forfeiture, as well all other stamp and legal fees. For new EC, AHG does not apply.

Whether you are still eligible for the 1st-timer grant, you have to speak to the HDB officer as they review each application on a case-by-case basis. Regardless, to book a new EC, the previous BTO application for your case must be cancelled first.

Thanks hope it clarifies. Which EC were you considering? Hope to speak to you to understand your housing requirements further. Thanks!

Warm regards,
