Currently I am a co owner of a HDB unit with my mother. If I were to remove my name as a co owner and refund the cpf I used in cash, will I be able to immediately buy a resale HDB under my own name? I am above 35yrs old.

Hi Azrul,

Yes it is possible if the MOP of 5 years is met, and your father's name included as occupier or owner. Is the current HDB still under loan? If so she needs to be financially equipped to take over the loan as well. You need to apply for a transfer of ownership with HDB branch on this, and buyer stamp duties will apply on the market value of share of ownership transferred.

Is the current HDB fully paid? If not, will your mum be able to finance this HDB on her own, should she be eligible to be the sole owner of this property? If financially she is able to do so and refund you the CPF funds utilised for this HDB including the accrued interest, you will then be able to purchase a resale HDB immediately after liquidating your ownership.

If the Minimum Occupation Period (MOP) of 5 years is fulfilled and your father's name is listed as an occupier or owner, then it's feasible.

Confirm if the current HDB unit is still under a loan; if it is, financial readiness to take over the loan is essential.

Apply for a transfer of ownership at the HDB branch.

Buyer stamp duties will be applicable based on the market value of the share of ownership transferred.
