Christmas is about the spirit of giving. I'm wondering if it's an acceptance practice for public servants to receive gifts from general public for their services. The officers at HDB have been very helpful to me. I'm overseas and I appreciate their compassion in my situation. Please give me your thoughts as I don't intend to cross the line. Thanks and regards Belinda.

Hi Belinda,

It would be advisable not to offer any gifts, especially expensive gifts, to any public servant in Singapore. There is a very thin line between expressing gratitude and intending bribery.

The best thing you can do to show your gratitude is to write a compliment letter. For HDB, you can do it online at the HDB website.

Thanks!
