Appreciate any kind advise here:
in view of high price of resale flat now (5 years old flat), we are thinking another way. let say I purchase a new 1br condo on my own, and my bf (above 35yo) to purchase a relatively cheaper resale flat (eg. 500k+ at punggol) for us to stay first. Next year when we get married, can we both keep our property?

Hi,

It is a possible option, because your bf can purchase a HDB flat as a single before he gets married as long as he is above the age of 35. As for the 1 br condo for investment I assumed, you will need to be selective because 1 bedroom although they make a good investment for rental, however it may not be as easy to exit in the future.

Hi,

1) It is true that the current resale HDB flats especially those nearly MOP already selling at $6xxk and more, and a lot of them are asking for COV.
2) This makes young couples encountering difficulties in getting their ideal home.
3) This is not only happening in Singapore, everywhere else in the world is facing the same problem.
4) Your plan actually works because there is no requirement from the HDB to ensure occupiers dispose of their private property after marriage.
5) But of course this increases the financial stress on the sole owner to service the monthly mortgage.
6) Indeed that private 1bdr is getting very popular for investors, most of them are fully sold at a very fast pace for all projects.
7) The cooling measure that was implemented in 2018 had forced developers to build a lesser 1bdr in their projects, this makes it more popular on development built on and after 2019.
8) Although private property price is increasing in the gradual mode it is still growing every year, thus it looks a lot of difference in a 10 years time frame.
9) I believed that 1bdr resale units will become a popular unit for the newly started families for those who are not eligible for the HDB flat.
