Good evening,

HDB doesnt allow decoupling or part share anymore so your wife wont be able to be essential occupier.

And even you are able to inherit your father's HDB, you have to sell either your existing HDB or his unit cause you are only eligible to hold on to 1 HDB at any point of time.

Hope my sharing helps in aiding in your enquiry. May I know how can I value add further in your property needs?

Best regards,

1. HDB decoupling is not allowed, thus ownership for your BTO cannot be changed.
2. Each married couple can only own 1 HDB unit, regardless of whether is it under single person name with the other being and essential occupier. It is not allowed for husband to own 1 HDB and wife to own another HDB.

Hope the above helps!

I have been in the real estate business since 2009, with more than 13 years of experience serving the Singapore real estate market.

I am very active in the residential segment of Singapore real estate market, having transacted hundreds of deals from HDBs to private condominiums and landed properties in Singapore, and have handled many unique cases in sales and purchases as well as rental deals.

Over the years, I have also established a network reaching out to more than 9,400 expatriates, bringing my market presence to both in and outside of Singapore. This has created an additional exposure when I manage my client's portfolios, on top of the conventional on and offline platforms, where other estate agents are relying on. Hi,

1) What you are asking is aka decoupling; i.e. change from an owner to an occupier of a married couple.
2) This is disallowed under the HDB policy. You may see the change of ownership under different situations: https://www.hdb.gov.sg/residential/living-in-an-hdb-flat/changing-owners-occupiers/change-in-ownership
3) There is no mention of a change of ownership for a married couple unless there is a life event arises.
4) Although there are no official announcements from the MND and HDB specifically on the decoupling of a married couple who are still living together. But all such applications will be rejected since April 2016.
5) As a married couple, you can only hold on to one HDB flat. Thus you will have to decide which HDB flat you wished to keep.
6) So decoupling of existing HDB flat will not help in your situation.
