About 15 years ago, my friend and her twin added their names into their parents' HDB flat to help with the monthly payments. Now, at 36 years of age, she is looking to withdraw her name from the unit as she has already placed a down payment for a HDB flat of her own. As the purchase of her new HDB flat is a time sensitive issue, she has been trying to get her parents and her twin to cooperate with her in starting the Transfer of Ownership process with HDB. However, they are dragging their feet and coming up with excuses and making it nearly impossible to get anything done. My friend is about to lose $5000 and the opportunity of purchasing her flat.
My friend is wondering if there is a legal way to force their hand in removing her name from their current flat and getting them to return her CPF contribution in time for her to purchase her new flat. I am helping her to source out for lawyers but we are not sure if we would require a lawyer who specialize in real estate or family law.
