A. I am a single parent aged 33 and has a new born less than 1 year. Can I buy a 1) HDB resale flat now, 2) apply for BTO ?

Hi, yes you can write in to HDB to appeal regarding this and see what they advise as it is mostly on a case by case basis.

In a few years time, you do not need to include your spouse into the joint ownership, however your spouse will have to agree to the sale of flat in the event that you wish to sell it in the future.

Hi,

1) A single parent with a child is eligible to buy an HDB flat; both BTO and resale.
2) I suggest you apply for an HFE straight away to find out the loan that the HDB able to release and the grants available to assist in your purchase.
3) The HFE application: https://www.hdb.gov.sg/residential/buying-a-flat/understanding-your-eligibility-and-housing-loan-options/application-for-an-hdb-flat-eligibility-hfe-letter
4) To include your spouse in the ownership of the flat is not just an administration process after the purchase.
5) There are stamp duty and legal fees involved. I suggest you check with the HDB when it is time to do so.
6) The cheapest way of including the spouse in the ownership is to do it before the purchase.
7) Do note that a foreigner cannot be an owner of an HDB flat. He/She can only be an occupier of an HDB flat.
