1. Can I apply for BTO with my current HFE and still look for (and purchase) a resale flat at the same time? Will I be locked out of purchasing a resale if I apply for BTO in the current exercise?

I am unsure if my BTO will be successful and I do not wish to waste the time if I am unsuccessful.

2. If I get a resale flat while waiting for BTO ballot results, can I then sell my house before accepting a BTO unit?

Hi, appreciate your sharing. Able to apply BTO first if fail then proceed with resale purchase. Upon getting BTO, you can await till key collection then sell your current resale flat.

There are certain protocols in place for cancellation of BTO application and penalties maybe involved for such cancellations, whether before or after flat selection. If you have already gotten your resale unit, your BTO will have to be cancelled as you are only eligible to apply for BTO after you have met your 5 years MOP for your resale flat.

Hi Monil,

1) The HFE only confirmed the following:
(a) Eligibility to purchase an HDB flat
(b) The loan amount
(c) Any grants available when buying a resale flat.

2) The HFE does not limit you to buying a BTO or a resale flat.
3) Therefore, you are free to source for a resale flat after submitting your BTO application.
4) You have to be careful not to enter into any negotiation or bargain for a resale flat if you still prefer BTO as the 1st choice.
5) I would recommend you should only enter into negotiation after the BTO results are released.
6) After you buy a resale flat. You will have to complete the 5-year MOP before being eligible to apply for a BTO again.
