Earlier known for its abundant forest of iron trees or tempinis in Malay, also from which the town got its name, Tampines now stands spreading its glory and glamor all over in Singapore. The town has also bagged the position as the third largest and third most populous town in Singapore, closely following two other towns, Bedok and Jurong West. The town history is quite interesting as the place was earlier covered with swamps, and sand quarries. Spread across 2089 hectares of land and about 2,58,310 inhabitants staying in Tampines, the place almost has everything to provide to its people. Moreover, the place was also used as a military training base until the year 1987 when officials of Singapore authority decided to renovate the place and make it an ideal place for residents to stay in.
